After being rescheduled multiple times, Ashanti Verzuz Keyshia Cole took place on Thursday night (January 21), as the two artists also paid tribute to 2Pac.
Twenty rounds of some of the best music the two singers have to offer. With round 7 the two singers decided to go head-to-head with their respective Tupac features. Ironically both artists were featured on the same 2Pac posthumous album back in 2007.
Before getting into the tribute around the 30:30 mark, Cole shared her own story. “I remember when I almost signed with Death Row records,” Cole recalls meeting 2Pac. “Knowing that my brother was really close to Pac. I was 14, 15. He died when I was 16 and the fact that I made it so many years after he told me himself that I would.”
Not only was Keyshia Cole going to sign to Shakur’s label as she revealed on The Fat Joe Show back in 2020, but the two were ready to record a song together. In 2018 Cole appeared on the Steve Harvey show where she recalled the last conversation she had with Tupac. “It was just weird though because the night he was saying he wanted me to work with him when we get back to L.A., it seemed like he was talking like he knew he wasn’t gonna make it.”’
Cole would then play first her single with 2Pac “Playa Cardz Right”, which also appeared on her studio album “A Different Me”. The single would peak at number 9 on Billboard’s U.S. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs.

Up next was Ashanti who asked the million viewing the Verzuz, if she should stay on the “West Coast theme”, to which her DJ replayed agreed. “Pac’s Life” single would play, which also featured T.I.
