Mariah Carey “Mesmerized” By Tupac Resurfaces And Goes Viral

Tupac Shakur has touched the lives of many, even those within the industry who were huge stars in their own right. Mariah Carey was no different as she recalled the time she met Tupac Shakur.

Back in the fall of 2020, Mariah Carey released her much anticipated autobiography, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. The book is composed of Mariah’s memories, mishaps, struggles, survival and songs. Unfiltered. Mariah went deep into her childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of her a big voice. The mega star let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman she became tell her side.

In the #1 New York Times Bestseller, Mariah also recalls the time she briefly met Tupac Shakur. It was possible at the 23rd American Music Awards. “As I stepped out in a complete rush to get back to the stage, I noticed a white Rolls-Royce quietly, slowly approaching,” Mariah said in the audio version of her book. Just as my toes touched the asphalt, the gleaming elegant vehicle came to a gentle stop right in front of my door. It was as if time itself had slowed to a stop. The tinted passenger window glided down.”

Continuing the recollection of the night, Mariah wrote, “He was alone, leaning back in the driver’s seat, so that the arm that gripped the leather steering wheel was nearly straight. He propped his head back just enough that his luxurious eyelashes didn’t cast a shadow and obscure his alert and amazing dark eyes that looked into mine.”

As if Mariah wasn’t already “mesmerized,” what came next instantly put the pop star in a daze. “Hey, Mariah,” he said softly, my name pouring out of his lips like smoke. Then that spectacular smile burst through everything. In an instant, the window went back up, and Tupac rolled away,” she said.

“Had it not been for a production assistant or someone calling me back to the stage, back to earth, I may have stayed there stunned for hours,” Carey remembered. “My heart fluttered nervously… I’d just had Tupac Shakur’s eyez all on me.”

According to Mariah, her hit single ‘Fantasy’ performance and nominations that evening did no compare to her interaction with Tupac Shakur. Little did she know, Tupac was a fan of her music. Money B, who rapped alongside Tupac in Digital Underground, revealed Tupac would listen to Mariah’s music. Back in 2017, as promotion was in full gear for Tupac’s upcoming biopic ‘All Eyez On Me,’ Money B gave some insight on who was Tupac Shakur.

“‘Pac was well rounded. When we used to be on tour and on the bus, he would be in the back listening to Mariah Carey, reading poetry or some book,” Money B explained to a panel consisting of Benny Boom, L.T. Hutton and Big Boy.
