Actress and comedian Regina Hall was once interviewed by Bossip, where she reflected on having a crush on Tupac Shakur.
At the time Regina was with cast members of the movie ‘The Hate U Give’. The movie which was based off Angie Thomas novel also titled ‘The Hate U Give’.
Angie Thomas also present during the interview, was heavily inspired by Tupac Shakur when writing the novel. “The Hate U Give goes back to what the literal meaning of Thug Life was for ‘Pac – the hate that’s been given to us via society,” said Angie in a previous interview with OON.
Regina Hall plays Lisa Carter, the mother to the lead character Starr Carter. In the movie Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Pressured to find her voice and stand up for what’s right, Starr faces challenges brought to her by all sides of the community.
During the early nineties, Regina had a chance to meet a young Tupac Shakur. When Bossip asked her about Tupac, Regina did not hold back.
“I loved Tupac obviously, but I just think like Angie. I just thought he was so cute. I’m look at the lashes. I’m like from his time so we was just like, he was living amongst us,” explains Regina. “You don’t even realize that something is gonna resonate for decades.”
For Regina there was always one thing in mind when it came to Tupac, and just like Pac she was being completely honest. “During the time he was just one of the fine ones, you know what I mean. I met him and I was like Tupac is really cute. Who boned Tupac? I really need to know. That was my goal. I was like, was it good?”
Tupac was more than just looks, as Regina Hall tells Bossip, it was the power in what Tupac was speaking of. “The fact that at that young age, young twenties. During that time the fact that he was cute, but the trust is he was speaking such knowledge in a way that wasn’t preachy. It made you feel like proud. It made you feel understood.”
