Tupac And Janet Jackson’s Off Set Chemistry In Poetic Justice Revealed

The chemistry between Tupac and Janet Jackson was not just between Lucky and Justice. According to co-star Regina King, the chemistry was real off screen.

A new two-part documentary entitled “Janet Jackson” airing simultaneously on Lifetime and A&E, lifts the lid on her private life for the very first time and reveals some of her most intimate moments ever caught on camera. Part of the 4 hour special, Regina King reveals Tupac and Janet had chemistry off and on screen as they filmed Poetic Justice.

“I don’t know if Janet will ever admit to it, but there was a bit of that chemistry going on. You could cut the air in the room at times,” Regina said in her interview. “But she was in a relationship with René, make no mistake about it.” Regina was referring to Janet’s then-husband René Elizondo Jr, who she was married to from 1991 to 2000.

It is well documented, through interviews by Tupac, that Janet requested Shakur to take an AIDS test. Although there were no sex scenes between the two, just a kiss, she wanted him to take the test. Tupac refused, not once but a handful of times, despite multiple efforts from various people working on the film.

“I don’t know if it was Janet that it came from, but I know that suddenly out of the blue they wanted me to take an AIDS test for this love scene,” Tupac explained. “And, I did not disagree. I said, ‘If I am really going to back love with Janet Jackson, I’d take four AIDS tests.’ But, if Ima do a love scene just like somebody else did and they did not take, I’m not taking a test. Not only am I not taking a test, but get out of my trailer.”

Although Regina King suggests there was chemistry between Tupac and Janet, the two did not stay in contact after filming the movie. After they had finished filming, Tupac thought that he and Janet would keep in contact. Even arranging to go paint balling. But as soon as the movie wrapped the number Janet had given Tupac had been disconnected.

Despite the AIDS test request and Janet changing her phone number, Jackson spoke highly of Tupac during an interview with Real 92.3. “Pac was crazy and I adored him so much,” Janet said. “He had another side of him where he was fun and silly. And, he use to love to call me square all the time.” Jackson also recalled the very first time Tupac got his infamous “Thug Life” tattoo. “I think he’s really special or he was really special. Incredibly talented and definitely an icon. I remember when he got (points to her stomach). It was over the weekend and he said, ‘Hey, square and he went like this with his shirt.'”
