Tupac Shakur continues to make headlines in 2023, this time the rap icon lands on President Barack Obama’s 2023 Summer Playlist.
After kicking off his 2022 Summer playlist with Beyonce’s Break My Soul, the 44th President of the United States releases his 2023 Summer playlist.
This time around, Obama’s list starts with J Hus featuring Drake on Who Told You. A mix of old and new, Obama’s list shared on Twitter has been viewed over 4.5 million times.
“Like I do every year, here are some songs I’ve been listening to this summer — a mix of old and new. Look forward to hearing what I’ve missed,” wrote President Barack Obama on his official Twitter account.
Drake isn’t the only top hip hop artist on the list. Nas (Who’s World Is Yours), Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur contribute to Barack Obama’s summer vibes.
Listed at number six was California Love which was featured on Tupac’s fourth studio album and first on Death Row records. The single which features Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman was a massive hit for Shakur, landing at number one on nine Billboard categories.
“It’s Westside, so you know the Row won’t bow down to no man
Say what you say, but give me that bomb beat from Dre
Let me serenade the streets of L.A
From Oakland to Sac-town, the Bay Area and back down
Cali is where they put their mack down; give me love!,” Tupac
This wouldn’t be the first time Tupac was somewhat connected to Obama. Back in 2011 at the White House Correspondents dinner, Obama name dropped Tupac and Biggie Smalls during his speech.
“Donald Trump is here. I know he’s taken some flack recently, but no one is more ready to put the birther issue to rest than the Donald,” President Obama said. “So he can focus real issues at hand facing America, like ‘Did we really land on the moon?’ ‘What really happened in Roswell?’ And, ‘Where are Biggie and Tupac?’”
