Sheek Louch, member of the Hip Hop trio The Lox, reveals they were ready to jump into the East West beef and diss Tupac Shakur.
It was 1996 and The Lox had signed with Diddy. The three hungry rappers from Yonkers were determined to prove themselves. Already making a name on the mixtape scene and appearing on DJ Clue’s 1996 Show Me The Money mixtape, The Lox was ready for the “big leagues.” The Lox was ready to rep their label and new home, Bad Boy Records.
“We was brand new. We was just getting there. Like we was hot in the streets as these guys and all over these Clue mixtapes,” Sheek Louch tells DJ Vlad during the 5 minute clip. “We wanted to get into some of those battles and the beefs. We wrote lyrics for them and all that.”
According to Sheek, Biggie and Diddy bought a stop to those plans. “We thought that’s what you do where we from, but it was bigger than that,” Said Sheek. And indeed it was. ‘Hit ‘Em Up‘ had dropped and for Tupac is was personal.
At the end, The Lox never had an issue with Tupac. “We was trying to say, you got some new young bulls on the label over here that we just getting into the game,” Sheek recalls. “Pac was great at what he did. Unless Kiss and them can tell me different, I don’t remember ever meeting Pac.”
