Tupac’s Favorite Song Revealed By Outlawz Member

Mista’s ‘Blackberry Molasses‘ was Tupac’s favorite song before he passed revealed Outlawz member, Young Noble.

The 90s produced talented artists in both genres of Hip Hop and R&B. This was true of R&B group Mista. Coming from Atlanta, the group consisted of lead singer Bobby Valentino along with Darryl Allen, Brandon Brown and Byron Reeder.

Mista would debut their self-titled album in 1996. An album that produced their hit song ‘Blackberry Molasses’ which reached number 13 on the U.S R&B Billboard charts.

Tupac (Gang Related)

Blackberry Molasses, produced by Organized Noize, would open Mista’s self-titled debut album. The deep and heart felt caught the attention of the legendary Tupac Shakur.

“Woke up Sunday morning
Got a little bad news today
They say my life ain’t worth living
And time is slowly ticking away
Don’t think that I’m goin crazy
‘Cause thoughts keep runnin’ through my head
I know I gotta be strong
Gotta hold on
Sometimes I’d rather give up instead
Seems like I’m better off dead,”

Mista, Blackberry Molasses

The group would unfortunately split in 1997 due to management issues.

Tupac’s favorite song?

Outlawz member, Young Noble, took to his official Instagram account to explain how much Tupac took to the song. “This song came out mid 96 this was Pac favorite song before he passed away. The last few months of his life he played this song non stop every damn day!! Me & the rest of the Outlawz used to get tired of hearing it but listening to the lyrics now I understand why he loved it so much!”

For many this would explain why the song was played during the last scene of the Tupac biopic, All Eyez On Me. During the scene, Tupac and Suge Knight are on their way to club 662. As they are riding in the BMW, Tupac (Demetrius Shipp Jr.) plays Blackberry Molasses.

Blackberry Molasses Lyrics

Blackberry Molasses
One of the things that never change
You gotta keep pushin on
The sun don’t rain all the time
There’s gonna be some heart ache
And pain

Woke up Sunday morning
Gotta little bad news today…ummm
They say my life ain’t worth living
And time is slowly ticking away
Don’t think that I’m goin crazy
Cause thought be runnin through my head
I know I gotta be strong
Gotta hold on
Sometimes I’d rather give up instead
Seems like I’m better off dead

Blackberry Molasses
One of the things that never change
You gotta keep pushin on
The sun don’t rain all the time
There’s gonna be some heart ache
And pain

Don’t tell me how to live my life
After all that we’ve been through
Don’t wanna hear about your hardships
Cause I’ve been there myself
A time or two
Still, life goes on
If you just keep holding on
So many things to survive
Once you realize
There’s no such place as paradise
At least in my eyes

Blackberry Molasses
One of the things that never change (never change)
You gotta keep pushin on
The sun don’t rain all the time (no)
There’s gonna be some heartache
And pain (heartache and pain)

Blackberry Molasses (black)
One of the things that never change (never change)
You gotta keep pushin on
The sun don’t rain all the time(no)
There’s gonna be some heartache
And pain (heart)

  1. Wow. Been so deep into hard-core hip hop since I was a kid in the 80’s. Was blessed to earn a living working as a dj in clubs from 94 to 2010. So music has been a huge part of my life. And this song has had it’s own unique placement for me that is deeper than any ranking of music. Never played this for anyone other than me. I would even take a longer route if im driving alone so I can bump it. And recently, like 2or3 weeks ago I was writing down songs for an old school mix I wanna make just to show I still got it. And although I’ve never used anything other than hip hop or house/dance, I have Blackberry Molasses wrote down to sample for the intro.
